DURGA PANDEY

It was the most wonderful gift my life gave me . Getting a chance to spend 21 days in Gir forest was a such pleasure.

When I was packing my bags, I was anxious . Many thoughts came to my mind , will I be able to come back again or not ? Will I be able to manage with the weather? Will I be able to tackle the problems or not and many others.

When I reached there in the forest , could luckily find a safe cave which was my home for the next 21 days  .

The next big task for me was to gather dry sticks and put on fire to boil water as the water in the nearby pond was not so clean to drink . I had no vessel to boil water , so I had to chop a huge bamboo stick to use it as  a vessel .

The water had satisfied my thirst but how could it satisfy my hunger . I had to step out and  go for hunting . The best of my survival was that nature was with me (laughs). As soon as I went deep inside the forest , I could see a group of rabbits . I killed two of them with a stone on my heart . My next few days were going to good is what I thought .

The sun had set and it was my first night , which was tremendously frightening . I had fear of some wild animal attacking me . The breeze was in full form and the biggest task for me was to keep the fire on , if I had to keep the wild animals and insects away . My fire went out twice but however I managed to keep the fire on. And that night passed sleeplessly .

RAJIV  UPADDHYAY

I urge to share my experience with you since it taught me the most significant lessons of my life. As a trekker and a forest enthusiast I was always fascinated by mountains and deep forest and hence I along with my friends decided to visit Bandipura forest last year. I had already visited   Gir forest before.

So in the month of December we all went there and the journey was pretty good to the Bandipura. It is situated in the arms of mountains and the weather was fascinating as it was winter month. Our journey started early in the morning in Jeepsy  by testing our tolerance to fog and cold of the forest. It was chilling cold and our teeth were crashing against each other. As it was early in the morning, weather was extremely cold and we could only see thing within 5 feet of distance. Ahead of it was all blur and milky. It tested our patience.

As we reached there, we have brought tent to assemble but since our hands were shivering with cold , it took us 2 hours to build it. As we all teamed up for the job to get done, we understood how different people think differently and execute different tasks differently. I learned how to cope with different people there. There were some new people with us too, who have accompanied us just for the sake of enthusiasm. They were very amateur and didn’t know a thing about how to survive in forest. As we completed our tent , we were supposed to make wildfire and for that we required wood. There were no wood left as such so we have to cut trees and nobody knew how to do that. We started hammering the tree nearby,  and it was exhausting experience as we never know it takes a lot of physical energy. It took us nearly an hour to gather the wood required for fire.

Suddenly we realised that the guy who was supposed to bring the food had forgotten the bag. It had all our food and water supplies for next 2 days. It was very shocking for all of us. And the car that had come to drop us has also left. We could do without water as we had a river nearby. But food was something that wasn’t easily accessible.

Since we all aren’t vegan or vegetarian, we decide to hunt for an animal . Our guide was very experienced person and knew how to set a trap and hunt for a wild animal. We set a trap at about 12 in the noon. But unfortunately there was nobody trapped till 6 in the evening. We filled our stomachs with water. Finally we heard a bear crying as it was trapped. We reached there and our guide stabbed him with sharp knife. It was very horror sight but we have to eat something as we were starving. We cooked it on fire. We spend 2 days on the same meal as it was a meat and fulfilling one.

NARRATOR

He survived alone for 4 days, hunted animals, purified filthy water , lit fire to stay warm , every quality you want in a action hero , he has everything. Rajhaunsh Sarang, the bravest man presenting to you .

RAJHAUNSH SARANG

I went for a trip alone to Sundarbans, where I got separated from my team and eventually left alone in that huge area. I went for a piss in jungle , no one noticed my dissappereance and left me alone. When I came back to my boat , no one was there .

Day 1

It was getting dark, I had to be patient till some one arrived to fetch me. The only way to keep me away from dangerous animals was to lit a bonfire. I gathered some dry leaves and dry wood and with the help of stones with great difficulty I  lit a bonfire.

Day 2

I was very hungry and thirsty. I had to hunt to stay alive. But most importantly stay hydrated. I fetched the nearest river , but it was muddy and drinking this could risk my life. I  carried an empty filter bottle with me, filled it with muddy water and drained the filth .

I spent  rest of the day wandering for help , searching for some assistance but to no avail.

Day 3

I couldn't find any meal yesterday , but today I needed something for my starving stomach . I took a wooden branch, made it pointed and it was ready to hunt. I waited behind the tree , after 3 hours found a rabbit sitting peacefully. Smashed the pointed equipment in him and killed him by throwing a huge stone on his head. I separated his head from the body, then lit the fire and roasted his meat. The dinner was surved today.

Day 4

Next day I saw some boats approaching towards me.

I screamed and yelled , and the group saw me. I was finally rescued .
